Cwmcarn Forest named among country’s best green spaces

Oct 14, 2020

Keep Wales Tidy has unveiled this year’s Green Flag Award winners – the international mark of a quality park or green space.

The flag will be flying at Cwmcarn Forest in recognition of its excellent visitor facilities, high environmental standards, and commitment to delivering great quality green space.

Cwmcarn Forest has undergone some amazing transformations over the past couple of years, most recently the visitor centre’s Raven’s Café received funding to extend the kitchen and serving area, along with complete landscaping of the exterior space to increase the seating area. A new toddler play area was installed at the side of the centre and new signage throughout the site.

Cwmcarn Forest continues to receive a Green Flag Award and prides itself on maintaining Cwmcarn Forest’s wonderful green spaces to the highest standard.

Michael Owen, Manager at Cwmcarn Forest said “The high standards of maintenance that visitors see throughout the site is testament to the hard work of our staff who have maintained Cwmcarn Forest under the most challenging circumstances. As an outdoor attraction we are fortunate to be able to offer visitors a haven on their doorstep where they can come for a walk or bike ride and enjoy the fresh air. The visitor centre gift shop and reception are open and Raven’s Café is operating as a takeaway during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The Green Flag Award programme is delivered in Wales by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, with support from Welsh Government. Independent green space experts volunteered their time in early autumn to judge applicant sites against eight strict criteria, including biodiversity, cleanliness, environmental management, and community involvement.
